If the walls of Mills Community House could talk, what would we hear? Would we hear children singing? Would we hear the voice of future Pulitzer Prize winner and former Mills resident Bruce Catton? Family members crying as local boys went off to war? Laughter and playful banter during a family gathering?
Mills Community House has been a part of Benzie County’s history for nearly a century. Through the years, it has served as a part of Benzonia Academy, home to the Benzonia Public Library, and a center for community events in the Benzie area. Mills Community House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and started its 100th year in October 2009.
The Mission of Mills Community House Association, a cultural and educational association, is to provide a venue for arts, cultural and educational opportunities and experience in Benzie County, through the renovation, preservation and operation of the historic Mills Community House as the center of these community functions. |
